The Benefits of Gratitude: Adding It To Your Daily Life
This time of year you hear the word gratitude and thankfulness coming out of everyone’s mouth. Some people understand the concept of gratitude and others do for a second and automatically jump right back into old patterns of obsessing over the lack of what they don’t have- instead of being grateful for what they do have.
We live in a world basically monitored by social media- primarily Instagram. We can get caught up in celebrities lives posting their “perfect lives.” And we naturally think, “Wow celebrities are so cool and live the life.” Which is basically what I think everyone’s reaction is to an actor or celebrity from any industry.
But then we get caught up scrolling through everyone else’s feed the “Instagram Influencers", new friends, old friends, colleagues, etc. And we see them living the ultimate lives- pretty much doing everything we wish were doing. Then the thoughts come rolling in- "They're so lucky to be able to go on a trip to Bali, what am I doing wrong?" or another common one I hear from my clients is "Everyone looks settled in their lives and not me."
This is what I personally feel has become the beginning of a modern day phenomenon called “Comparisonitis.”
Of course, we get stuck on the lack of what we don’t have because everyone is flaunting their lives on the gram and it's in our faces all day everyday. That’s where the comparisonitis kicks in. A prime example of how people get stuck in the lack of gratitude loop.
But I’m going to try to help reel you back in with this simple notion- The more you are grateful for what you have, the more opportunities and rewards come into your life.
That is why I’ve created a gratitude worksheet to help you take the first step in the right direction. This is something that has done absolute wonders for me.
Every night write on the worksheet or in a journal, the little or big miracles that happened to you that day. It could be something as small as someone opening the door for you to getting that job promotion you’ve been waiting for. Simply acknowledging and allowing yourself to be grateful will allow the universe to do its job by supplying you with more opportunities!
On the bottom part of the page is the gratitude of future goals coming to fruition. Thank the universe/God/Higher Self/ Ascended Master- for all the goals you're trying to accomplish as if they've already been accomplished.
“Thank you for helping me reach my goal of $100,000 in the first year of launching my business. Thank you for helping me meet my future husband/wife/partner.” Whatever it is you’re working on and what your goals are.
To make a habit of this everyday, the results can be mind blowing!
In addition to working out the gratitude part of this blog post, these are my 3 go to stones that will help speed up the results-
Tiger’s Eye- helps boost self confidence to help you move forward in an area of your life that you need to work on. Encourages a positive attitude through your journey of looking at everyday as a gratitude process.
Botswana agate- helps you see the silver lining to a problem and able to forsee the problem. It supports love and the strength to look for solutions rather than dwelling on difficulties- which is the most ideal stone for committing to a daily practice of gratitude.
Green aventurine- known as the stone of “personal growth” particularly helping to remove negative energy blocks to help let go of old limiting beliefs.
The stones and journaling aren’t only to be used for this time of year- this exercise is a rewarding commitment that you can add to your day to day that you will be forever grateful that you stuck with!
